Magnolia View Cottage was built in 1651 and is a Grade 2 listed, 17th century cobb Devon long house. Historically it is the second oldest cottage in Goodleigh and spent its early years as the village carpenter’s workshop. Today it is a spacious yet cosy holiday home, which has been tastefully renovated retaining many original features such as wood beams.
The dual aspect living room is packed full of character thanks to its wood beamed ceiling and the wonderful wood burner, which is great for those colder winter months. Within the comfy living room is a large L-shaped sofa, a TV with Freeview and a good selection of books and games.
Located off the main entrance hallway is the dining room, which is tiled and has views of the garden. Alongside the large, extendable table, which can comfortably seat eight is an Aga that can be lit on request and a fully working piano.
Next door to the dining room is the well-equipped kitchen and attached utility room. Appliances found here include an electric oven with hob, a drink fridge, a fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a coffee machine. There is also a food processor and hand held food blender.
Situated on the ground floor is the first family bathroom, which has a power shower, a wash basin and a loo.
If you turn right at the top of the stairs at the far end of the first floor hallway is a good sized double bedroom with an iron frame bed. This tastefully decorated bedroom has countryside views and storage is provided in the form of a chest of drawers and wall mounted hooks.
The large first floor family bathroom has a bath, a separate shower, a loo and a wash basin. There is also a nice big window with countryside views and a handy heated towel rail.
The middle bedroom upstairs is stunning and has some of the most beautiful views over the cottge’s garden and the local countryside. The double bedroom, which some great character features such as wood floors has an iron frame super king size bed, as well as a wardrobe and a dressing table.
Turning left at the top of the stairs you come to a pretty twin bedroom complete with two iron framed single beds. The bedroom, which is great for adults or children also has a chest of drawers and countryside views.
The final bedroom is another good sized double bedroom with a pine frame double bed and countryside views. Storage in this room is provided in the form of a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is also a TV with a Nintendo Wii (that can play DVD's) within Bedroom 4.
The beautiful garden at Magnolia View Cottage can be accessed from various areas of the house and has something to offer all its guests. The walled garden begins with a nice pebbled terrace that leads to a lower patio area decked with fairy lights and featuring picnic table for alfresco dining and a BBQ, from here you can sit back and relax surrounded by flowers and enjoy some of the gorgeous countryside views. The private, fully enclosed garden also has a level lawn area and fruit trees. Of course the highlight of the garden is the magnificent ancient magnolia tree that sits centrally within the garden.
