Situated in the heart of Goodleigh, a pretty North Devon village, is Magnolia View Cottage, a four bedroom holiday home accommodating up to eight. This character, self-catering property is both child and dog friendly and available to rent all year round. The house, which is split over two floors has a wonderful mix of modern day style and character features, and is a great home-away-from-home whatever time of year you visit.
Magnolia View Cottage was built in 1651 and is a Grade 2 listed, 17th century cob Devon long house. Historically it is one of the oldest cottages in Goodleigh and spent its early years as the village carpenter’s workshop. Today it is a spacious yet cosy holiday home, which has been tastefully renovated retaining many original features such as wood beams.

The dual aspect living room is packed full of character thanks to its wood beamed ceiling and the wonderful wood burner, which is great for those cosy winter months. Within the comfy living room is a large L-shaped sofa, a Smart TV and a good selection of books and games.

The dining room is connected to the kitchen and located off the main entrance hall. It is tiled and has lovely views of the garden. Alongside the large, extendable table, which comfortably seats eight is an Aga (which is lit October-April) and a piano for added entertainment!

Linked to the dining room is the well-equipped kitchen. Appliances found here include a large double electric oven with hob, drinks fridge, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine, kettle, toaster and a nutribullet. The kitchen door opens directly to the upper terrace, with its lovely seating area and gorgeous views.

Situated on the ground floor is the first family bathroom, which has a shower, wash basin and toilet.

The middle bedroom upstairs is stunning and has some of the most beautiful views over the garden and local countryside. The double bedroom, which some great character features such as wood floors, has an iron frame super-king size bed, as well as a wardrobe and a dresser.

The large first floor family bathroom has a bath, a separate shower, a loo and a wash basin. There is also a nice big window with countryside views and a handy heated towel rail.

Another good sized double bedroom with a wood frame king-size bed and countryside views. There is ample storage with a wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table; plus a monitor and Nintendo Wii (to play DVDs).

If you turn right at the top of the stairs at the far end of the first floor hallway is a good sized double bedroom with a traditional pine double bed. This tastefully decorated bedroom has countryside views and storage is provided in the form of a chest of drawers and wall mounted hooks. This room is conveniently next door to the main bathroom.

Turning left at the top of the stairs you come to a pretty twin bedroom complete with two wood framed single beds. The bedroom, which is great for adults or children also has a chest of drawers and countryside views.

The beautiful garden at Magnolia View Cottage can be accessed from the main hallway and the kitchen and has something to offer to all guests. The walled garden begins with the upper terrace with stunning views and table and chairs to relax and enjoy the surroundings. A pretty path, along the historic stone wall, leads to a lower seating area featuring a picnic table for alfresco dining and a BBQ, from here you can sit back and relax surrounded by flowers and enjoy some of the gorgeous countryside views. The private, fully enclosed garden also has a level lawn area and fruit trees. Of course the highlight of the garden is the magnificent ancient magnolia tree that sits centrally within the garden.
